Brews and bullseyes: The Throwing Post debuts new Lakes Area entertainment (Business ~ 08/02/19)
It’s a lot more fun than darts. At least, that’s what Michael Schupbach said his customers keep telling him. He and co-owner Rich Emrich opened The Throwing Post June 1 in Arnolds Park. The co-owners said it’s the area’s first axe bar and was once the Arnolds Park Post Office — making for a clever reference in the business name. Schupbach estimated 50 throwers come through the doors daily once the weekend hits, and they’re often joined by spectators just wanting to sit, watch and enjoy a drink... -

Police were advised by the reporting party that while at work at the Tyson Pork Plant at approximately 3:45 a.m. Monday morning he was assaulted by a Joseph Jackson, age 33 of Cherokee, IA. Jackson allegedly struck the reporting party several times in the face causing an injury that required medical attention...

Iowa board decides to require seat belts on school buses

The Iowa State Board of Education has adopted new rules that would require lap-shoulder seat belts on all new buses bought by school districts and state-accredited nonpublic schools. The administrative rules adopted Thursday are still subject to legislative review. Other safety equipment required would include one additional stop arm per bus, hand rails, exterior boarding lights and fire-resistant crash barriers between the front bus seats and the bus drivers...
