Head on backwards?

Friday, October 29, 2021

Sorry Mr. Editor but it seems there are too many people in my old hometown that have somehow got their head on backwards.

First is that spoil site near the lake where lake bottom sludge was deposited just a few years ago. Now the powers that be want to change it into a rec area for kids... essentially trying to make silk out of a sow’s ear.

Next is that wrong-headed effort to put a large, stinky industrial soybean crush plant right next to a residential area.

And what about adding more of those tall, unreliable, noisy, bird-killing, whirling dervishes called wind turbines. Especially when they take up 400X the land that conventional central power plants do for the same power output. Just not a fan of making Iowa more of a windmill landfill. Wind turbines also just make Iowa an even better fly-over state.

And lastly giving a thumb’s up to an underground CO2 pipeline... even knowing that unlike natural gas, CO2 is heavier than air. Therefore, in the event of a leak, CO2 will dissipate slower than natural gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas, displacing oxygen. CO2 is also odorless, unlike oil and natural gas.

Demonizing any oil pipeline in favor of CO2 pipeline is simply crushing our economy instead of soybeans.
