The angst and mess of Cherokee’s flooded parklands received a much needed reprieve when a contract was approved by Cherokee City Council last week to remove the sticky. stinky mass of muck left by the flood waters in Spring Lake and Wescott Parks. The Council awarded a contract after two bids were received for the Debris Removal, including SCE, LLC $232,400.00; Schmillen Construction $168,550.00. Iowa gas prices have fallen 6.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.48 to start the week. Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of Ontario Street early Sunday morning on a report of a woman outside the home screaming about a potential killing. Officers located the adult female, who told them that her husband, Victor Montoya, age 27 of Storm Lake, had assaulted her during an argument inside the residence, striking her in the face and chest. He allegedly threw her onto a bed and began to choke her, impeding her ability to breathe...

Two individuals were hospitalized and one was air lifted following a crash that involved three vehicles late Friday afternoon in downtown Storm Lake.
