Storm Lake firefighters responded to a house fire early Tuesday morning at 721 Hickory Lane. A police officer on patrol spotted the house on fire around 5 a.m., and it was quickly determined that the house was not occupied. Heavy smoke was pouring from the eaves by the time firefighters arrived. Working for two and a half hours through the dawn, they were able to extinguish areas of flames on the first floor and in the basement. Damage was estimated at $50,000. No injuries were reported...
