Fifteenth annual ‘No Hungry Neighbors’ food drive begins

Friday, November 19, 2021

Alta Municipal Utilities and the City of Alta are sponsoring their 15th annual food drive to serve the disadvantaged people in our community. As winter approaches many families and individuals may experience difficulty making ends meet. The Alta community has always been very generous with each other, and organizers hope that this year will be no different. As a community we can help support those neighbors to make sure that no one in our community goes hungry.

The purpose of “No Hungry Neighbors” is to help feed the low income, the unemployed, the elderly, the disabled, the people on fixed incomes, the homeless, and those experiencing temporary emergencies. The goal is to collect 3500 pounds of food this year. Donations will be given to our local food pantry, The Lord’s Cupboard, for distribution.

Suggested food items include: canned meat, hot dogs, tuna, cereals, canned fruit, canned vegetables, packaged meals, mac-n-cheese, crackers, sugar, flour, juices, soups, spaghetti sauces, dry pasta, peanut butter, dish soap, laundry detergent, and paper products.

REMINDER: expired items can not be accepted. Please check the expiration dates!

Collection barrels are placed at the City of Alta/AMU building at 223 Main Street. Donation hours are from 7:30 am – 4:30 p.m. Monetary donations would also be appreciated. Checks may be made out to “The Lord’s Cupboard” and dropped off in the drop box, or mailed, to Alta City Hall, Attn: No Hungry Neighbors, 223 S. Main St., Alta, IA. 51002.

Anything you can give, no matter how large or small, will help support someone in our community. Watch for updates on the progress of the drive in reaching our goal of 3500 pounds on the local Altatec cable channel 3.
