Parking ban considered on Main

A no parking ordinance change on the residential portion of Main Street was discussed by the Alta City Council last week.

Currently parking is allowed on the west side of the street, but with parked cars, it is difficult for two lanes of traffic to pass.

City officials noted that they expect some “pushback” from the public on the issue. The council decided to run the proposal by the Planning and Zoning Commission before proceeding, and it was suggested that if it moves ahead, an opportunity for public feedback should be scheduled.

Council member Willie Lang noted that having cars parked on the street may help keep speed down on the straight road, which he said gets to be a “drag strip” when school is in session.
