Where are the lifeguards?
The Alta city pool continues to be hampered with a lack of staff.
At times, the pool has had to be shut down due to a shortage of available lifeguards, causing residents to express their frustration on social media. There are 10 lifeguard positions intended on the staff, but only six were available to hire for this summer, four of them under age 16. The problem worsened over the holiday period as one was out with food poisoning, one had to seek medical care after a bee sting, and two were out of town.
The problem has continued over the past few years. “It’s another frustrating summer,” the council was told.
Anyone interested in a seasonal lifeguard position may still contact city hall for an application.
