Mike Copeland and Samantha Rasmussen, co-owners of The Turn Around, wanted to give back to dancers and dance families by having scholarships for various grade levels. At the end of the dance year, they asked head dance teachers to nominate dancers from their classes for these awards. They are looking for Leadership, Work Ethic, Listening Skills, Creativity, Love of Dance, Attendance, Commitment and Loyalty. Each teacher that nominates a student, writes a paragraph about why they feel this dancer deserves the award. Then a judge that is not from Storm Lake and not familiar with any of the students or families read the nominations and select the winners. “We want to eliminate any bias when selecting the winners. We have three scholarship recipients, two are for the Donna R. Rasmussen Scholarship for $125.00 each and one is for the Gale A. Rasmussen Scholarship for $250.00. Each scholarship is named after the founders of The Turn Around. Congratulations to our recipients for showing great character.”Co-owners said. Receiving the Donna R. Rasmussen scholarship for Kindergarten through 2nd grade was Callie Campbel. Receiving the Donna R. Rasmussen scholarship for 3rd through 5th was Darwing Raudales. Receiving the Gale A. Rasmussen scholarship for 6th through 12th grade was Natelyn Phillips.
