Engelmann wins basketball honors
Alta-Aurelia athlete Brielle Engelmann has been named to the 3rd Team All Twin Lakes Conference for the 2020-2021 basketball season and to the Pilot - Tribune All - Area first team.
“Getting named to the 3rd Team All Twin Lakes Conference and other awards around this area was quite an honor,” she said. “Many of the girls who received these honors were very deserving and highly respected players. To be recognized among these awesome players was amazing.”
Engelmann is a sophomore guard and has been playing basketball since sixth grade. She also plays softball and runs track and cross country.
She has experienced a few setbacks along the way. “Unfortunately, I was injured in the last basketball game of the season and will have to miss track this spring and summer softball because of this. But I am hoping to run a little cross country before returning to the basketball court next winter.”
In addition to sports, she is also involved in student council, FCA, Kindness club and other volunteer work.
“After high school, I plan to go to a four-year college and possibly further my sports career there. I am unsure of my career path at this time,” she said.
Engelmann has come to appreciate the little things as a result of the pandemic. “This season was different in many ways. At the beginning of the season, only being able to have two fans per player was difficult. The energy that the student section and other fans had provided in other years was definitely taken for granted.”
“We were also a young team this year, and wins didn’t come easily. This year, we were able to grow and become more like a team, and I am excited to see what next year brings!”
Engelmann lives near Storm Lake.
