St. Mary’s faculty certified in mental health
St. Mary’s students have been away from their friends, teachers, family and school for months. The administration of St. Mary’s recognizes the school environment will be different for the students when they return. The faculty is taking extra steps to ensure the well-being of each student as they deal with the adjustments and changes coming back to school.
Monday and Tuesday the St. Mary’s teachers, staff and administrators spent their day getting certified in Mental Health First Aid for either children or youth. Each faculty member attended one of the two trainings most applicable to the age they would be teaching. The purpose of the training was to help faculty identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substances use disorders. The 8-hour training provides adults with the necessary skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to students who may be developing a mental health illness or substance use problem.
St. Mary’s PreK-12 Catholic School values the importance of student health and the benefits of having all faculty certified in mental health. For more information on St. Mary’s schools, call 732.4166.
