Annual fire and EMS report: Alta department handles 19 fires

There were 11 fewer calls in 2019 than in 2018 for the Alta Fire Department, according to Chief Kirk “Bubba” Reetz, who recently compiled year-end figures. “It was a nice downtick,” he said.

2019 saw 178 calls for service involving nearly 1,900 hours of firefighters’ time. The department took part in 17 community events, 12 department meetings, 91 outside meetings and seven outside training events, for a total of 6,935 firefighter volunteer hours.

Calls had peaked in 2016 with over 220.

There were 19 fire calls in Alta in 2019, 13 in Nokomis Township, three in Maple Valley Township, two in Elk Township, and the Alta department responded to three mutual aid requests outside its area.

The city of Alta had 106 Emergence Medical Services calls in 2019, plus 32 in the surrounding townships and mutual aid response.
