Same Church, New Name

Friday, December 13, 2019

My name is Pastor Ben and in the past year, the Church of Christ in Alta, IA has been going through the process of changing our name to Northwest Christian Church. If you’ve driven through Alta on Highway 7 recently, you may have noticed some new signage to that effect. We’ve been getting a lot of questions as to why we made that change, and whether or not it reflects a change in our beliefs.

We have always been, and always will be, a part of the Restoration Movement, non-denominational, independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. Churches in our movement can typically be identified around the country by their “Christian Church” or “Church of Christ” name, and so, for many decades, our church went by the name Church of Christ. However, over time, we discovered that many visitors were confused by that moniker. They often mistook us for a non-instrumental church or for a different number of denominations that also use that term. So to better communicate the contemporary worship, bible-believing, non-denominational beliefs of our church, we changed our name to Northwest Christian Church. “Northwest” refers to our location in the town of Alta, and “Christian Church” to better communicate our non-denominational worship.

If you would like to attend a service, they start at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings. We would also like to invite you to our Christmas Eve service at 6:30 PM, December 24th! Have a blessed Christmas!
