New applications sought for Iowa AmeriCorps grants: Interested applicants are encouraged to apply for 2019-2020 AmeriCorps State funding

Wednesday, January 16, 2019

Volunteer Iowa is seeking applicants for federal funding in the form of AmeriCorps State program grants.  AmeriCorps is a National Service program that helps meet community needs through the efforts of AmeriCorps members. The AmeriCorps State program offers different types of grant funding to host agencies to help them advance their work and mission through the service efforts of AmeriCorps members. Organizations that operate local AmeriCorps programs identify proven solutions to a community need and then design service activities for a team of members serving full- or part-time for one year or during a season.

Existing Iowa AmeriCorps programs engage members in tasks such as tutoring at-risk youth to get them reading at grade-level, providing outreach and services to prevent child and substance abuse, retrofitting homes to improve energy efficiency, providing capacity-building services to increase the effectiveness of Iowa nonprofit organizations; restoring habitats and building trails in Iowa parks; and assisting refugees in accessing healthcare and securing jobs.  Potential applicants may do similar activities or use members to address other identified needs in their community.

New applicants have an option of rolling due dates with an upcoming deadline of January 31. For more information or to access the application materials, please visit the Funding Opportunities section of the IowaGrants website.  Application materials are also available upon request via email to Volunteer Iowa at  A webinar for new applicants will take place on Thursday, January 17 at 9 a.m.; a link to join a webinar is posted on the IowaGrants website.
