Downtown begins season with Open House

Helen Bosley was on hand at Hoffman’s Flower & Candle Shop Sunday for her 46th year as part of the downtown Open House, a traditional beginning to the holiday season in the city. This year, she was assisted by her great-granddaughter, Kennedy Miller, Storm Lake. Bosley will also be celebrating her 85th birthday this month with a card shower. She resides at Methodist Manor, 1206 W. 4th Street, room 154, Storm Lake, 50588. At left, Carrie Brown greets visitors at a lavishly decorated Peach Blossom store, and shoppers explore the massive display of Hallmark ornaments at Sugar Bowl. Many of the stores debuted new displays and offered treats as nicer weather helped to bring out a healthy crowd throughout this year’s event. Plans are being considered to possibly expand to a two-day event in the future.
