Storm Lake High School freshman Lessly Ortega-Luque was selected to represent Storm Lake High School and Iowa at the 2017 Youth Leadership Summit this July in San Francisco. The event is sponsored by GEAR UP, which stands for Gaining Early Access Readiness. Lessly is 1 of 4 students from Iowa that was selected to attend.

The Youth Leadership Summit gives high school students the opportunity to identify and maximize their leadership skills, create a supportive national network of Gear Up students, and receive the tools and training to make a positive change happen in their communities and around the world. The YLS is 3.5 days of interactive training with nationally-known trainers. When Lessly returns she will have leadership roles as speaking at GEAR UP events, and sharing the GEAR UP story.
