Doebel named next principal at SLHS

Matt Doebel has been selected to serve as the next principal of Storm Lake High School.
The Storm Lake Community School District Board of Education will consider the selection at its meeting on Thursday. Doebel is currently an instructional coach at SLHS, a position he has held since 2016.
“We are very excited to announce that Matt Doebel will serve as our next principal, starting with the 2021-22 school year,” said Dr. Stacey Cole, SLCSD superintendent. “Mr. Doebel is an incredibly talented and dedicated educator who has served in our district for many years. He is a known and trusted professional who has the strong leadership and communication skills we are looking for in our next principal. I am confident that he will have a positive and meaningful impact on our school community moving forward.”
In his role as an instructional coach, Doebel has collaborated with teachers to develop and
initiate effective instructional practices, while creating school- and district-level professional
development opportunities for staff. He previously served as an art instructor in the district and
has been an assistant wrestling and cross country coach. Doebel is also a high school Robotics
Team mentor and coach.
Doebel holds a master’s of education degree in curriculum and instruction and a bachelor’s
degree in art education, both from Buena Vista University. He has also received a state PK-12
Principal Certification.
Doebel’s appointment as principal comes after a search that included 14 applicants. He will
begin serving in the position effective July 1, 2021.
