Linda Madsen received the local October McTeacher of the Month Award. It was awarded by Storm Lake McDonald’s after nominations were submitted. She teaches 3-year-olds at Little Warriors Preschool in Alta as part of the Alta-Aurelia School District.

Madsen is not sure why she was selected. “I don’t think I do anything above and beyond what anyone else does,” she said.

Stacy Mueller, Alta Elementary School Principal, says just the opposite. “Mrs. Madsen does a fabulous job of going above and beyond for each and every student in her class. She is an amazing team player and has some great ideas to share with her colleagues. Our district is extremely thankful to have her,” Mueller said.

Madsen’s winnings consist of a plaque, a $100 check for school supplies and McCafé coffees for a year. She pinpointed what she says is the best part of her job. “The families and the children I work with. The families over here are so excited about the program for the 3-year-olds.” She has been teaching preschoolers for more than 20 years at the Sioux Rapids Upper Des Moines Opportunity Head Start and with the same organization in Storm Lake. This is her second year of teaching in the school district. The Little Warriors preschool program has been expanding. “We’re super excited to watch it grow,” Madsen said. She appreciates school Superintendent William Walters’ support of the program. “He’s really passionate about early education.”Madsen is originally from Sioux Rapids and the Rembrandt area.
