A familiar face in Alta has joined WEL-Life Assisted Living as its new Executive Director.

Cindy Pedersen, who’s called Alta Home for 40 years, recently joined the WEL-Life team. “I have wanted to work back in my community for a while and after having my dad at WEL-Life I knew I wanted to give back to a generation that has given us so much,” she said.

“I have a goal of just giving back to my community by listening and helping the older generation.”

Pedersen’s love for the residents at WEL-Life was evident from her very first day working in the facility, according to Cal Lout, Vice President of Operations for Alta. “She takes time every day to visit with residents and staff, assuring satisfaction with our care and services,” he said.

Living in Alta long-term is invaluable. “She knows the community and nearby towns.” Lout said. “Her connections with Alta and folks from surrounding towns will be beneficial when potential residents are looking for a new home.”

A native of Newell, Iowa, Pedersen previously worked for Taher Inc. for 26 years as a Food Service Specialist, a position that enabled her to set up food service operations for schools and other institutions. She has training in hotel restaurant management through schooling at a vocational-technical institution.

“Cindy brings with her many years of professional experience in the food service industry, which will help guide and assist our current staff at WEL-Life,” Lout said. “We have a great team and Cindy will build on that to make us even better.”

Pedersen’s husband Brad is the Street Superintendent in Alta. She has a daughter, Elizabeth, who is married to Kole Peterson. The Petersons have two sons and a baby due in March. She also has a son, Brian, who works at for HyVee’s corporate operation and lives on the family farm north of Storm Lake.

When not at work, Pedersen, enjoys involvement in church activities. “I’m involved in a weekly bible study group at Summit Church,” she said. “I like to help with Kids Club at our church when time allows.”

In addition, Pedersen ranks herself as a true foodie. “Food is my passion and I love eating at new restaurants and try to cook different types of food,” she said.

While COVID-19 has caused some restrictions on activities and visitations, WEL-Life is still open for admissions. Pedersen encourages anyone who wants to learn more about the Alta assisted living to call her at 712.200.2620 or email cindy.pedersen@wlalta.com.
