Brothers bring Fab Four tribute to Arnolds Park
Yesterday & Today: A Tribute to the Beatles will perform Saturday, August 29 at Preservation Plaza at Arnolds Park, the latest in the free outdoor Live at the Lake concert series. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
Featuring brothers Billy, Matthew and Ryan McGuigan, the Omaha-based band is a unique version of a tribute band - no costumes, wigs and fake accents, just dead-on musical precision in an all-requests format.
There’s no denying that everyone has a Beatles song attached to an event in their life. Through laughter and personal stories, Yesterday & Today connects the audience and performers - no two shows are same.
“We love the high-wire nature of not knowing what we’ll be playing on any given night,” Billy McGuigan said in an interview. “We randomly pick three songs to get the show rolling and put the rest in a basket. We can do any songs from any era at any time - we will do something off the White Album, then play ‘Love Me Do’ and then play their most obscure song… I’ll pull a name and then ask the person to share the reason behind why they love a particular song. When someone shares a very personal story as to why they love a particular song - it kind of brings everybody together. You begin to celebrate whatever that person’s reason is, whether it be funny or poignant, and that takes place throughout the whole night. It’s the coolest thing.”
With stunning set designs adding to the musical ability, the audiences is immersed in the sights, sounds and memories of the Beatles, proving that the music truly is the soundtrack of our lives.
