Royalty crowned at BV County Fair
The 2020 Buena Vista County Fair royalty was crowned on July 9th at the fairgrounds in Alta. Queen is Beauna Thammathai and King is Nate Stark. Beth Greenfield was named both first runner-up and Miss Congeniality in the queen category.
Annabelle Christensen was named Little Miss and Levi Lindgren Little Mister.
Thammathai almost gave up hope when her name was not called for Miss Congeniality or first runner-up, she said. Then she heard her name called as queen. “I’m shocked. I was super-happy.”
A 2020 graduate of Storm Lake High School, the 18-year-old will attend the University of Northern Iowa in the fall and plans to study music and theater. “Thank you to all those who encouraged me,” Thammathai said, which included family, friends and others. In her free time, she likes to sing, cook and draw.
Nathan Stark was named the fair’s king. He is 17 and will be a senior at Storm Lake High School in the coming school year. When asked what he thought about being crowned king, Stark said, “Just another day.” After high school, he plans to join the military and eventually would like to study criminal justice. He likes to ride motorcycles and work on cars.
Annabelle Christensen was crowned Little Miss. She is 9 and is from Albert City. She never thought she would win. “It’s very crazy. I’m very excited,” Christensen said. In her spare time she likes to ride her bike and draw.
Levi Lindgren was crowned Little Mister. He is 9 and is from Newell. “It’s a big honor,” he said. He has many interests which include drawing, watching TV, working with LEGOs and riding and driving horses.
All contestants were interviewed at the fair on stage by Mike Musselman, but beforehand underwent preliminary interviews so the judges could get to know them further. The fair royalty attended many events during the fair.
