P.E.O. scholarship awarded to Lessly Ortega

Lessly Ortega, a senior at Storm Lake High School, has been named the 2020 recipient of the Storm Lake P.E.O Scholarship. Lessly is the daughter Alejandro Ortega and Elda Ortega. She plans to attend Buena Vista University and major in Computer Science.

Lessly is a National Honor Society graduate of SLHS and was a very involved student as a member of Key Club, 4-H, as a peer mentor and secretary of the student body. She was also a swimmer, played soccer and ran cross country. Lessly has volunteered at Methodist Manor, the food bank, The Bridge, Santaís Castle and other community events. She has worked at Kings Pointe as a lifeguard, East Early Childhood center as a teacherís assistance and Methodist Manor as a dietary aid.

The $1000 scholarship, awarded annually by the Storm Lake P.E.O. chapters, is available to local young women who plan to attend an accredited college or university. Recipients are chosen based on several factors, including academic excellence, leadership, and school and community involvement.
