A design by Eden, a student in Mrs. DeRoos class, was chosen for the fundraiser T-shirts.

The youngest Alta-Aurelia students, through fourth grade, were recently invited to take part in an art contest. One of the resulting designs was chosen for a special fundraising t-shirt, with the announcement made at the school Wednesday.

The t-shirts will be sold by the Alta Warrior PTO to help raise money toward a new playground for the school.

Orders will begin soon. Information will go home with children from school, or see (and like) the Warrior PTO page on Facebook. Plans are to post the information at the convenience stores also, according to group president Kayla Wilson.

The current wooden playground is nearly 30 years old, and the PTO would like to see it replaced, but costs are considerable for such a project, up to $250,000. The project is still in the planning stages, with hopes to form a volunteer committee. Anyone interested in being a part of the group may contact Wilson at or send a message through the Facebook page. “We’re in the early stages, just trying to get people involved,” Wilson says, noting that the PTO also has some other exciting things in the works this school year.

A new set of swings is being obtained with some grant money to replace some that are no longer functional, and if weather allows, should go up next month.
