Appreciation Night fundraiser for firefighters set

Friday, August 23, 2019

The Alta Firemenís Association will host its annual Firefighter Appreciation Night, Sunday, August 25, 4-7 p.m. at the Alta Community Building.

A pork loin meal with sides will be served for a free-will donation, and the fire department trucks will be on display for the public. Home-delivery meals can be arranged by contacting Kirk Reetz at 712-229-1350 or Lindsay Brown at 712-299-5369.

Proceeds from this yearís fundraiser will be used toward the purchase of a new washer and dryer to clean firefightersí protective gear, to efficiently prepare for the next call and to protect firefighters from carcinogens that can build up on fabric. The cost of the system is around $16,000, and it will replace a residential washer that is not appropriate for the task. Those who cannot attend but would like to donate toward the project can do so by sending a check payable to the Alta Firemenís Association to the Alta Fire Department.

Past donations and grants have helped to prove a new tanker, extrication equipment, a used pumper, backup generator, equipment for pumper and heavy rescue trucks, and firefighter gear.

The Fire Department is also currently accepting applications. Contact Chief Reetz for more information.
