Land for future sewage plant needs considered

A possible land acquisition for the Alta Street Department and the Alta Sewage Treatment plant located on the southwest part of Alta was discussed at an Alta City Council special meeting held on July 17th. Mayor Al Clark gave a presentation about the possibility of acquiring additional property near the present sewage treatment plant. It could help provide space for future replacement of the current sewage treatment plant when it becomes outdated, Clark said. The land could also be used to provide an area to store dead ash trees that the city is removing because of the devastation caused by the Emerald Ash Borer. It could also be used to provide the street department an area to dump snow in winter.

A question was raised about Iowa DNR concerns with snow melt runoff into an adjacent waterway stream, so more discussion will take place at the regular city council meeting on Aug. 5th. This will give the mayor more time to speak with the Iowa DNR concerning any issues with melting snow if the city chooses to use this area to dump snow.
