AURELIA - After five seasons, the semi-pro football team based in Aurelia, the Northwest Iowa Bulldogs, have announced that after this season is completed, the team will be no more. Here is a statement from their Facebook page from the owners of the team:

“This will be the last season of the Northwest Iowa Bulldogs. We have pondered this the last couple of years but at the beginning of this journey we set a five year plan and we held to it. We said we would reach that goal and see where life has taken us and decide from there.

Life has taken us in a different direction from semi pro football.

Clint started off a 31 year old married man with no children. He now has a young daughter Ginger Sue and his family will be moving about 2.5 hours away to Nebraska where former board member and his wife, Angie, has accepted a new job she has worked hard for. Clint is a family man.

Zach started off as a single 22 year old man who’s life was football. His life is so much more than football now. Five years later and Zach is now happily married, to his wife Mackenzie, with a 5 year old daughter, Kailyn Mae. They are his world.

It’s time for new adventures for Clint and Zach. One focused around friends, family, and careers.

They have missed so much over the last five summers whether it be weddings, work, family functions, funerals, birthdays, buddies getting together, or just a weekend off with family. They couldn’t tell you the last time they took a summer vacation.

As the old song says ‘You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away.’

It’s time to walk away and enjoy our summers and families. We love our coaches, players and fans. Thank you to the Aurelia School board for allowing us to make Valor Field our home again. Thank you to the City of Aurelia and Aurelians for allowing us to keep the Bulldogs alive. Thank you to our Fans, for without you, there would be no purpose. Thank you to our players, for without you there would be no team. Thank you to our coaches, for without you there would be no good winning football!

Thank you to our families! Without you all, there would be no game day!You all help run the show while we play! Thank you for letting us follow our dream. We are all yours now!

You have no idea how much we will miss this! It has been our world for five years now. But it’s time.

The last official Bulldogs game will be at US Bank Stadium Oct 19.

Thank you all! We love you! God Bless!
