Dave Turnquist, Alta-Aurelia head softball coach spoke to us on Tuesday morning. Dave is assisted by K.C. Christiansen, his brother Jon, and daughters Lesa and Katie. There are 24 girls are on this year’s roster.

Last year’s team compiled a 23-4 record, won the conference title with a 10-1 record, and played in the state tournament. A-A comes in ranked 8th in the pre-season poll. Five hitters are featured from last year’s team. These include Seniors Jess Flaherty, outfielder Brittany Turnquist and pitcher Abby Kraemer who had 363 KO’s. Other players include Jessica Larsen with a .317 batting average, 1st baseman Elaine Westphal, 2nd base Sierra Hill, Jenna Nielsen, Emma Peterson, and Ellie Magnussen.

Joining Abby in the bullpen are Shea Peterson, Madison Thies, and Jess Flaherty. Dave believes this year’s team can be a contenderfor the conference title and states that Newell-Fonda, Emmetsburg, and S.E. Valley will also vie for the title. A-A will also face tough non-conference teams in the likes os Akron-Westfield, West Monona, and Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
