Tornado boys blank the Dutch
ORANGE CITY - The Storm Lake boys soccer team picked up their fourth straight win on Monday night as their defense set the tone in a 4-0 win over MOC-Floyd Valley. The green and white only allowed two shots in the 80 minute contest.
SL senior Andy Rodriguez broke the scoreless game open with 12 minutes left in the first half and was set up by senior Bway Ku. The score sat at 1-0 at the break.
Tornado senior Jose Martinez made it a 2-0 contest at the 27 minute mark in the second half after being set up by Ku. The Dutch had an own goal with 10 minutes left to put SL up 3-0. Martinez put the final nail in the coffin with two minutes left, the assist going to senior Sebastyan Santellan.
“We controlled the game. Ninety percent of the game was played on their half. We had some good opportunities on goal, but their keeper did a great job in the net for them,” SL Coach Ben Schekirke said. “Defensively we did a very nice job of shutting down their attack, only allowing them two shots.”
Storm Lake took 14 shots to MOC-FV’s two. Freshman Josh Reyes got the start in the goal and played all 80 minutes with two saves. The green and white had six corner kicks to the Dutch’s zero.
Storm Lake improves to 13-1 on the season. They have their home finale and Senior Night on Thursday as they welcome in 11-2 Western Christian. Storm Lake won the earlier meeting this year, 4-1.
