SL girls tennis falls in tight meet

CHEROKEE - The Storm Lake girls tennis team hit the courts once again on Tuesday night as they took on Lakes Conference foe Cherokee. The two sides battled back and forth but ultimately a tiebreaker was the difference, Storm Lake dropping a 5-4 decision.

“This all came down to the tiebreaker. The girls worked hard so that is all I can ask,” SL Coach Staci Maloy said.

In singles play: Natalia Garza fell 10-2, Jenny Almanza fell 10-6, Kaying Vang won 10-6, Lapita Morales fell 10-7, Yuselin Vazquez won 10-1 and Beauna Thammathai won 10-2.

In doubles play: Garza and Almanza fell 11-9 with a 9-7 tiebreaker, Vang and Morales lost 10-7 and Vazquez and Thammathai won 10-8.

Storm Lake was set to play LeMars on Thursday but the weather moved that until May 9. The green and white head to Spirit Lake on Monday evening.
