On the afternoon of Saturday, March 30, at approximately 5:41 p.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 1101 North Lake Avenue in reference to a vehicle on fire.
Upon arrival fire fighters observed the engine compartment of a 2016 GMC pickup truck totally engulfed in flames.
Fire fighters extinguished the fire without further incident.
Fire damage was contained to the engine compartment with moderate smoke damage to the vehicle’s interior and is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit.
Damage is estimated at $15,000. The vehicle is owned by Peter August of Foley, Alabama.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 20 minutes and was assisted by the Storm Lake Police Department.
On the evening of Saturday, March 30, at approximately 11:05 p.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Seneca Street for a traffic violation.
Upon contacting the driver, identified as Rebecca Yalle, age 20 of Storm Lake, police allege she was intoxicated and her driving privileges had been barred by the State of Iowa.
Yalle was arrested and charged with Driving While Barred (aggravated misdemeanor) and OWI (serious misdemeanor). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $3000 bond.
On the evening of Monday, April 1, at approximately 6:52 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to Cricket Wireless located at 1515 North Lake Avenue in reference to a disturbance.
Responding officers were advised that an employee at the store had locked themselves in a back room out of fear of a patron who allegedly was refusing to leave the store.
Upon arrival of police the suspect had departed from the store. Police were advised that the suspect, identified as Lisa Lohnes, age 35 of Storm Lake, had reportedly become upset in the store and refused to leave when told to do so.
Police located Lohnes at approximately 9:36 p.m. at 123 Superior Street where she was taken into custody without incident. The SLPD charged Lohnes with Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Trespass (both simple misdemeanors). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.
On the afternoon of Friday, March 29, at approximately 3:30 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to Yesway located at 1101 North Lake Avenue in reference to an assault.
Upon arrival police met with store staff who alleged that a patron, later identified as Kathleen Keefe, age 67 of Storm Lake, reportedly spilled some gasoline on herself which led to an argument with store staff and the physical assault of a store employee during the confrontation.
Keefe was departing the store in her vehicle as police arrived and she was stopped in the 900 block of Lake Avenue.
Police took Keefe into custody and further allege she was intoxicated.
Following an investigation the SLPD charged Keefe with OWI (serious misdemeanor), Assault and Disorderly Conduct (both simple misdemeanors). She was booked into the Buena Vista county Jail on a $1600 bond.
No injuries were reported.
