On the afternoon of Thursday, March 21, at approximately 3 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 210 Highway Street in reference to locating a wanted person.

Police were searching for Alexis Cervantes Alvarez, age 18 of Schaller, IA who was wanted on a warrant charging him with Violation of Probation reference Burglary 3rd Degree.

Upon knocking on the door of the residence police allege an officer watching the rear of the home observed Cervantes Alvarez attempt to jump out of a rear window of the house. Officers entered the residence and took Cervantes Alvarez into custody prior to him escaping. Police further allege that Cervantes Alvarez had in possession a small amount of marijuana.

The SLPD booked Cervantes Alvarez into the Buena Vista County Jail on the outstanding warrant and further charged him with Possession of a Controlled Substance Marijuana (serious misdemeanor). He was held on a $5300 bond.


On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 30, at approximately 5 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 130 Highway Street #1 in reference to a disturbance in progress.

Upon arrival of police they were advised that a Nyemouch Tot, age 20 of Bellevue, NE had come to the residence to allegedly confront a family member and upon arriving she damaged property at the residence and physically assault a family member.

Police arrested Tot at the scene and following an investigation charged her with Assault and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree (both simple misdemeanors). She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600 bond.


On March 20 at approximately 4:14 p.m., at 1101 N. Lake Ave. in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Annabel Xaimoungkhoun of Storm Lake, was involved in an accident with a vehicle driven by Somsak Inthongsay of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $1100.


On the morning of Thursday, March 21, at approximately 2:20 a.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 1000 block of Lake Avenue for a traffic violation.

Upon contacting the driver, identified as Bernice Emerson, age 37 of Linn Grove, police learned that Emerson was wanted out of Cherokee County, IA on a warrant for Theft 5th Degree (simple misdemeanor).

Emerson was arrested and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.


On the evening of Thursday, March 21, at approximately 9:30 p.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of Michigan Street for a traffic violation.

Upon contacting the driver identified as Ruth Davies, age 31 of Storm Lake police determined that Davies driving privileges had allegedly been barred in the State of Iowa.

Davies was arrested and charged with Driving While Barred (aggravated misdemeanor). She was booked into the county jail on a $2000 bond.


On the morning of Thursday, March 21, at approximately 6:47 a.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to Harvest International located at 401 West 20th Street in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that a surge in water pressure caused the sprinkler system alarm to sound.

There was no fire and no damage.


According to Buena Vista County Sheriff Kory Elston, an arrest was made the morning of March 21, for operating while intoxicated. At approximately 9 a.m. a Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a gold Chevrolet Impala following a reckless driving complaint in the area of 630th Street and 120th Avenue in Buena Vista County. The driver, 27 year old Ivonne Martinez of Storm Lake, was subsequently arrested and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail for OWl 1 st Offense.


According to Buena Vista County SheriffKory Elston, on March 17 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a Buena Vista County Deputy observed a vehicle travel through the town of Alta at a high rate of speed on Highway 7. After pursuing the vehicle a short distance at speeds of up to 107mph, a traffic stop was conducted at 70th Avenue and Hwy7. Rafael Flores (47) of Storm Lake was cited for speed and arrested for OWl 3rd or subsequent offense, a class D felony. Flores is being held in the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5000 bond.
