On the afternoon of Thursday, March 14, at approximately 12:46 p.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 1500 block of East Lakeshore Drive for a traffic offense.
Upon contacting the driver identified as Everardo Manriquez Mendoza, age 24 of Storm Lake police learned that his driving privileges had allegedly been barred in the State of Iowa. Police took Manriquez Mendoza into custody.
Police further observed Edna Danielle Garza, age 25 of Storm Lake in the vehicle. Garza was wanted out of Buena Vista County on warrants charging her with Failure to Appear in Court reference Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Corrections Facility and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Police took Garza into custody without incident and further allege that she was in possession of marijuana which allegedly Manriquez Mendoza provided to her.
Manriquez Mendoza’s vehicle was impounded by police and a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle. Police executed the search warrant and further located and seized marijuana and drug paraphernalia connected to the use of methamphetamine hidden in a compartment in the dashboard area of the vehicle.
Following an investigation the SLPD booked Garza into the Buena Vista County Jail on the outstanding warrant and further charged her with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana 3rd Offense (aggravated misdemeanor). She was held on a $3000 bond.
Police charged Manriquez Mendoza with Driving While Barred (aggravated misdemeanor), Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana (class D felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana 3rd Offense (class D felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). He was booked into the county jail on a $12,300 cash bond.
All defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
