Alta Kiwanis Notes
Tuesday morning’s meeting featured two guest speakers. First was Carrie Buddenhagen. Carrie, an Alta grad is with Alta-Aurelia Speech Program and BV theater. She recently had different groups compete at State. A chorale reading group read together from scripts. Next was an improv group whose members do not know the subjectmatter until two minutes before they compete. Improv groups learn to develop a topic using the three P’s; Practice, Practice, Practice. Carrie is also involved with BV Theater. Recent improvements at Roxy Theater in Alta in lighting and improved sound system helped to enhance recent productions of “Wizard of Oz” and “Annie”
Our second guest speaker was Ryan Burkhart. Ryan is a teacher and head baseball coach for Alta-Aurelia. Coach
Burkhart praised strong Alta community support of the baseball team but indicated that seating at games was not always adequate especially for tournament games. The bleachers are small necessitating people to bring lawn chairs. Sometimes rows of chairs two or three deep along the fences obscured view of the field. He proposed construction of a two-tiered set of concrete stands along 50 ft. of fence line. The cost of this project would be around $8,000. Funding could come from concession stand receipts, donations and other fund raising Kiwanis business: Feb 22--- Next pop can collection.
