SPENCER - The Ridge View wrestling team qualified two wrestlers for the District tournament on Saturday. Wrestlers moving on include Lucas Else at 106, and Zander Ernst at 132.

“All of our guys wrestled well Saturday. We have come a long way this season in terms of technique, conditioning, and experience. From day one to now you can see a definite difference in this squad,” RV Coach Caleb Christensen said.

“Lucas and Zander both wrestled well. Lucas had a tough finals match with the Spirit Lake kid, but did a nice job in his wrestle back to finish second and move on. Zander wrestled well on the day. He wrestled a hard fought semis and then came out in the finals and got the job done to become Sectional Champion. Both of these guys work hard and have improved a ton during the course fo the season.”

Ridge View’s Zander Ernst attempts to take his opponent down on Saturday. Ernst, wrestling at 132, punched his ticket to the District meet.

Other Raptor placers included Ethan Thomas fourth at 126, Brody Lillefloren fifth at 152, Sawyer Cockburn fifth at 160, Connor Naberhaus fourth at 195, and Tate Phillips fifth at 285.

“We are still a young team, so to have all of these guys back next season is huge. I know we will continue to improve and gain in the wrestling room and weight room during the off season and come back next year stronger and more competitive,” Christensen said.

Else and Ernst will next compete in the District Tournament this Saturday at MOC-Floyd Valley in Orange City. Wrestling begins at noon.
