The Alta PTO fundraising effort is getting into full swing as they prepare to fundraise for the school’s playground replacement, starting with a fundraiser on Saturday, January 19.

All proceeds with the 80’s Prom night event will go towards a new playground, replacing the 20-year-old one currently in place. To generate some excitement in the movement, they’re starting with a swing set.

A grant from the Buena Vista County Foundation will need to be matched. The Prom Night funds will help match that, granting a swing set. “It will evolve from there,” said President Kayla Wilson.

Wilson said they would like to have the funds for installation by the summer.

“It’s a night to get away and enjoy time with friends while supporting the school,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Park Board has had its first meeting of the year to continue with plans of its own.

Old buildings on the west side of the city park will be coming down as they make improvements. The old bathrooms are in the back of the park, right behind the tennis court.

The Park Board has already selected a structure model to move forward with and has raised $1,200. They need to raise a total of $56,000 to be eligible for a grant, though the grant will cover about half of the cost.
