New walking trail in the works for Aurelia
Aurelia Kiwanis is planning a summer project to extend a concrete walking trail.
The sidewalk, which would be 1,700 feet total, will be five feet wide and about five inches thick. Kiwanis have decided to go with concrete over asphalt for durability and easier maintenance.
Kiwanis approached the Alta-Aurelia School Board Tuesday for $7,500 in assistance for a 350-foot area close to the school, as the sidewalk would go to the edge of school property on Ash street near the school’s practice fields. The other direction will lead towards First United Methodist Church.
Representatives said they would be fundraising elsewhere for the majority of their funding, but asked for approval to plan their finances.
Supt. Lynn Evans recommended that Kiwanis come back to the board once they’re further along in the project, but agreed to tentatively partner with the group for now, without committing finances until potentially next year.
