Maxine L. Dettmann, age 87, of Newell, passed away on October 27, at the UnityPoint Hospital in Fort Dodge.
A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, November 17, from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Auburn, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
Maxine Lorraine Kent was born on May 21, 1931 in Lake City, Iowa the daughter of Nolan and Opal (Marrington) Kent.
Growing up, Maxine attended school in Auburn where she graduated from Auburn High School.
On May 11, 1951, Maxine was united in marriage to Bill Dettmann in Auburn. Together, they were blessed with two sons: Kevin and Collin.
Maxine worked at the Lytton Cooperative Elevator for many years before relocating to Newell to work in the family business with her husband, Bill, who operated Dettmann Oil Company.
Maxine enjoyed playing cards, shopping, and gardening. She also loved listening to music, reading and traveling. Spending time with family was very important to Maxine and she treasured being able to do so. Maxine will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Kevin (Mary) Dettmann of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Collin Dettmann (friend, Kim Zilverbery) of Ames, Iowa; grandson, Nolan (Aiyana) Dettmann of La Crosse, Wisconsin; brother, Duane (Lucille) Kent of Aurelia, Iowa; sister-in-law, Esther Dettmann of Sac City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Dee Ahern of Stuart, Florida; cherished nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Nolan and Opal Kent; and husband, Bill Dettmann.
