Parking ban now in enforcement

Friday, November 9, 2018

The mayor of Alta has proclaimed that the winter snow ordinance “parking ban” will be in effect from November 1, to April 1, 2019. Mayor Al Clark has advised the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department to issue warnings to cars illegally parked until the first snow fall, which could be as early as this week.

The “first snow fall” has not been specifically defined by the mayor, as to how heavy it needs to be to elicit citations. General provisions are as follows.

No parking is allowed on city streets between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.

No parking is allowed in the 100 and 200 blocks of Main Street between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.

No parking is allowed on East 2nd and West 2nd Streets from Main Street to Prospect Street, and from Main Street to Cherokee Street, between 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Cars parked during these hours will be subject to citations or towing to facilitate removal of snow from city streets.
