On the afternoon of Sunday, October 21, at approximately 3:52 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 204 Grand Avenue in reference to locating a wanted person.

Upon arrival of police they located and arrested Edward Malakai, age 32 of Storm Lake who was wanted in connection with a charge of OWI 2nd Offense.

Malakai was booked into the county jail and held without bond.


On the evening of Sunday, October 21, at approximately 10 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department arrested a wanted person after he surrendered himself to police.

Police arrested Christian Zavala, age 19 of Storm Lake who was wanted out of Buena Vista County on a warrant for Failure to Appear in Court reference Driving While Suspended.

Zavala was booked into the county jail on a $300 bond.


On the morning of Sunday, October 21, at approximately 5:45 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 531 Russell Street #2 in reference to a welfare check.

Responding officers were advised that the resident of the apartment, identified as Francis Lizbeth Puanan Porter, age 34 of Storm Lake had reported to a third party that she was allegedly engaged in an argument with her boyfriend who she was court ordered to stay away from and that subsequently contact was lost with Porter.

Upon arrival of police they made contact with Porter who allegedly advised that her boyfriend, identified as Jaime Miramontes, age 33 of Storm Lake, was not present at her apartment. Police conducted a consent search of the apartment and found Miramontes reportedly hiding in an apartment bedroom closet.

Police arrested both Miramontes and Porter and charged them both with Violation of a No Contact Order (simple misdemeanor). They were both booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.
