Alta Kiwanis Notes

Friday, September 28, 2018

Guest speaker was Brad Pederson, Alta City Street Supervisor. Brad mentioned some recent projects the department has been working on. Several trees affected by emerald-ash borer have been taken down.

Many trees between sidewalks and the city street have been trimmed. The city has been working with Alliant tree planting program to replace any trees taken down.

Currently, the street department crew is short one.

Sanitary work has recently been done on the 9th street storm drain. With recent heavy rains, Brad cautioned home-owners not to connect their sump pumps into storm drains. This puts an extra burden on sewer system.

Problems at the city pool this year include a pump going out and not enough lifeguards on hand.

Street work needed on 1st, Alta Vista Street, and street south of the high school building.

There may be a change in the winter parking. Normally no parking is allowed on city streets from Nov.-April 1st.
