Highway 7 bumps scheduled for fix

Friday, August 10, 2018

The Department of Transportation has indicated a solution soon ahead for highway bumps along Highway 7, which appeared about two years ago.

Citizen Gloria Sander presented correspondence during open forum at Alta's City Council meeting Tuesday. "We will be letting a project to address those pavement issues near the gold course as well as those just west of Aurelia," Tony Lazarowicz of Iowa DOT said. "There is patching on other routes that will be included in this project as well."

The project will be getting bids on September 18, and the contractor will be required to start no later than October 22, the letter said. Iowa DOT expects the project to be completed by the end of this fall.

Other bumps with potential to be remedied include railroad track crossings in town. Mayor Al Clark said he is in talks with David Woodruff, vice president of Canadian National Railway about the possibility of smoothing them out for drivers in town. "He said they have a crew line manager in the area that will look into it," Clark said.
