Tree planting event Monday in SL, volunteers needed

Wednesday, June 13, 2018

A Storm Lake Tree Planting Celebration is planned for Monday at

the site of the future Russell Street Park, the former Joyce's

Greenery location at Russell and 5th Street. The public is

welcome, and volunteers are invited to help plant 75 trees after

the morning presentation.

Jeff Jensen, Trees Forever field coordinator, Alliant Energy

Customer Operations Manager Randy Brummer, city officials and

state officials, and members of the Mayor's Advisory Committee

for Parks, Trails and Urban Forestry are expected to take part.

Events begin at 9:30 a.m., with a "Science of Planting Trees"

demonstration shortly before tree plantings begin at 10 a.m. City

officials expect that the planting may take more than one day,

depending on how many volunteers attend.
