Ridge View boys see a handful move on to State
MONDAMIN - The Ridge View boys already know that two of their relays teams are going to Drake Stadium next week after the State qualifying meet on Thursday night. The girls did not see anyone earn an automatic bid. The boys finished fifth as a team with 83 points and the girls fourth with 68 out of the 14 teams.
“It was a windy meet the whole night. Plus it got cold,” RV Boys Coach Dale Tokheim said. “We ran about as well as we could. We had a lot of PRs.”
The first event that the Raptor boys qualified for was in the shuttle hurdle thanks to the efforts of Andres Carbajal, Austin Degen, Jaxon Franken and Jacob Tokheim taking first with a time of 1:01.77. The other relay event win came in the 4x400 as Jacob Mitchell, Carbajal, Tokheim and Kevin McGuire finished in 3:34.35.
Carbajal took second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.7 and should move on to the State meet as should Jesse Coleman who finished third in the 100 with a time of 11.38. Two more relays may be moving on are the 4x200 that took second place and the 4x100 that finished third but had a time of 45.11.
Coach Tokheim listed the sprint medley and Ezra Miller in the shot put as being pretty close if they’ll make the cut or not.
For the ladies, Katlyn Wiese finished second in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:21.24. Madeline Else finished fifth in the 100 hurdles with at time of 17.72. The 4x200 team finished third and could make the wildcard cut with a time of 1:54.33.
State meet begins on Thursday in Des Moines at Drake Stadium.
