Louise M. Gutz
Louise M. Gutz, age 92, of Omaha, Nebraska formerly of Storm Lake, died Friday, January 5, at Heritage Pointe in Omaha.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to LWML or LCMS Mission Central. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Louise M. Ziegler was born March 21, 1925 in Lawton, Oklahoma, the daughter of August and Lina (Rudi) Ziegler. As an infant, Louise was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Lawton, where she was also later confirmed.
She attended a rural grade school within walking distance and graduated from Elgin High School in 1943. Louise continued her education at Concordia Teachers’ College in Seward, Nebraska, graduating with a Lutheran Teaching Diploma in 1946.
On August 8, 1948, Louise was united in marriage to Norman H. Gutz in Lawton. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Barbara and Anita.
Louise was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. She served on the Ladies Aid, Quilters, Hispanic Outreach Ministry, and in LWML.
Louise was at heart a teacher; besides teaching a year at Lutheran schools in Corpus Christi, Texas and Grand Island, Nebraska, she taught Sunday School at Zion for 50 years. She also worked at H & R Block preparing taxes, and cooking at the Senior Center.
Louise sewed quilt tops for Orphan Grain Train, enjoyed reading and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Barbara (Mike) Cook of Omaha, Nebraska; Anita (Shannon) Bathe of Whitewater, Colorado; grandchildren: Jenae Cook of Broomfield, Colorado; Lisa Cook of Omaha, Nebraska; Joel (Mollie) Cook of Fremont, Nebraska; great grandchildren: Sydney Louise and Owen Michael Cook; sisters: Barbara (Roy) Moore of Lawton, Oklahoma; Margaret (Herbert) Buckendahl of Storm Lake; brother, August Ziegler of Lawton, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Lois Gutz, Julie Gutz, Lenore Vogel, and Zelda Morse; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; brothers-in-law: Roy Moore, Gerhardt Gutz, Norton Morse, Bob Christensen; sisters-in-law: Pauline Gutz, Victoria Christensen, Vera Vallie; nephew, Bernie Gutz; and nieces: Teresa Wilson, Linda Hargrove, and Wanda Slaven.
