Orville Joseph Snyder was born October 9, 1932, in Sac County, Iowa, the son of Edward and Mary (Vonnahme) Snyder. In his youth, he was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn.
Orville attended country school, and later graduated from Auburn High School in 1951.
In March of 1953, Orville was inducted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1955.
On September 7, 1957, Orville was united in marriage to Myrna Ann Schulte at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda. Together, they were blessed with six children: Julie, Janna, Russ, Jim, Jon “Pete”, and Ann.
Orville was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller. He was also actively involved with the Early American Legion, Sac City Knights of Columbus, and served on the Schaller School Board.
Farming was a passion of Orville’s. He raised cattle, laying chickens & broilers. He milked cows and enjoyed attending cattle sales. Orville enjoyed the changing of the seasons but especially looked forward to the fresh green crops in the spring. During his ‘spare’ time, he could be found bowling, or playing cards. In 1995, Orville & Myrna moved off the farm, and into Schaller, where they had built a home. He still would go to the farm everyday, where he enjoyed gardening which lead to his other love of canning the produce. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He will deeply be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Julie (Ron) McClintic of Schaller; Janna (Terry) Hintz of Grinnell; Russ (Paige) Snyder of Alta; Jon (Jen) Snyder of Schaller; Ann (Lee) Holz of Lynch, Nebraska; grandchildren: Michael (Jackie) McClintic of Denver, Colorado; Megan (Troy) Matthaidess of Eldridge; Amanda Hintz of Grinnell; Kyle Hintz (fiancé, Jenna Sandquist) of Grinnell; Ashtyn, Olivia, and Dalton Holz of Lynch, Nebraska; great grandchildren: Trevor and Emma Matthaidess; Maddie and Vivi McClintic; siblings: LuVern Snyder, Elvira Kitt, Wilmer (Judy) Snyder, Algene (Barb) Snyder; sister-in-law, Helen Snyder; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends.
