SLHS, St. Mary’s, SC win state dance championships

Three area schools earned state championships in the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association annual competition at Des Moines’ Wells Fargo Arena Thursday and Friday.

Storm Lake High School is the state champion in Large School Hoopla for the fourth consecutive year, and finished 4th in Class XI Pom. St. Mary’s is state champion in Class I Pom, and finished 8th in Small School Military. Sioux Central is state champion in Class V Pom, and finished 6th in Class II Lights.

Newell-Fonda placed 2nd in Small School Hoopla and 3rd in Class II Pom. Alta-Aurelia finished 3rd in Small School Hoopla and in a tie for 4th in Class II Kick. Ridge View was 7th in Class II jazz, 7th in Class IV Pom and 9th in Class I kick.
