Storm Lake swimming girls split a pair of duals

SPENCER - The Storm Lake Swim Team split a pair of dual meets here Monday Oct. 9. Against Spencer they came up short with a final score of 35 to 59 and against Algona the win was by a score of 75 to 19.

The team got a couple wins and one new record in the varsity events and lots of second and third place finishes.

In varsity action Grace Meier won the 100 yard breaststroke in a new record time of 1:09.39. The previous record was 1:09.78 set by Keely Soellner in 2015. The other top finisher in the varsity action was Alli Graff’s win in the 200 yard Individual Medley in a time of 2:33.76.

Second place finishes included a pair for Kylie Mongan, one in the 50 yard freestyle in :27.56 and the 100 yard backstroke in 1:07.23. Sami Lalone finished behind Meier in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:19.29. Alli Graff had a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 6:26.55 and Megan Brown was second in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:12.3. Two of the team’s relays finished in second place. The 200 yard Medley Relay team of Kylie Mongan, Grace Meier, Megan Brown and Lindsay Williams finished second in 2:00.85; while the same group finished the 200 yard Freestyle Relay in 1:51.5.

Varsity third place finishers included Taylor Richardson in both the 200 yard and 100 yard freestyle events in 2:23.02 and 1:03.94 respectively. Kennedy Tate was third in the 500 yard freestyle in 6:40.04 and Lindsay Williams was third in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:10.91. The team had two relay teams place third. The Varsity B 200 yard Freestyle Relay team of Taylor Richardson, Vivian Keenan, Emma Jensen and Isabel Gebers finished just behind their teammates in a time of 1:59.7 and the 400 yard Freestyle Relay team fought from behind for three legs to nearly catch the second place team but came up .01 short with Beth Runneberg, Vivian Keenan, Taylor Richardson and Alli Graff finishing in 4:23.86.

The girls will be back in the water on Thursday night against Algona with the meet held in Emmetsburg.
