Building a better world with road trip readers at Welcov

Friday, July 21, 2017

The Alta Community Library theme of “Building A Better World” was carried out through their Road Trip Readers at Welcov program Thursday, June 22nd.

Sally Van Houten, started the program by having the children perform the action dance song “Tooty Ta” for the residents.Sally read “Tap the Magic Tree” by Christie Matheson. This book provided an opportunity for everyone to help a tree change with the season.

It began with a brown bare tree, but tap the tree and turn the page and see one bright green leaf and tap again and more leaves appear on the next page.

After patting, clapping, wiggling and jagglin the blossoms bloomed, apples grew, and the leaves swirled away with the autumn breeze.

Older children read stories to the residents and one resident responded by reading to the younger children.

In order to tie in with the building theme, children and residents could use tooth picks and marshmallows to build items. The most creative ones were a puppy, two wheel motor cycle and a house.

The children passed out healthy snacks to the residents. Please remember to bring in your library reading logs to receive prizes.Alta Library Children’s Summer Program met at Welcov to do a program there.
