O達rien Co. Conservation offers multiple opportunities for youth this summer

The O達rien County Conservation Board is offering a multitude of opportunities for youth to get outdoors and EXPLORE this summer.These activities are targeted for young people between the ages of 5-12.The next opportunity to get outdoors and explore is coming up on Thursday, July 6.

Come out to the Prairie Heritage Center for a morning of solar exploration.There will be games, activities and a craft focused on the sun, moon and earth. This event will help young people prepare to get the best view of the total eclipse happening this August.

Activities will begin at 9:30 and will conclude at 11:30.


Are you looking for a good book to read and a relaxing environment to share ideas about it?

Siouxland 103, a group of interested readers organized by the Orange City Art program, will be meeting at the Prairie Heritage Center on Tuesday, July 11 at 7:00 to discuss Bones of Paradise by Jonis Agee. The 鼎an You Canoe? event held by the O達rien County Conservation Board is a popular way to learn a new skill or experience one you enjoy!

The Conservation Board naturalist is offering an entry level experience to water recreation. You can try out a canoe, kayak and even a stand up paddle board free of charge. If you missed the opportunity in June, there is another event coming up soon. 鼎an You Canoe? will be held on Thursday, July 13 beginning at 6:30 p.m at Mill Creek Park near Paullina.

Canoes, kayaks and paddle boards will be available at this event. If you haven稚 had an opportunity to try out these recreational vessels, this would be a great opportunity to experience them.

The Conservation Board will provide all of the equipment necessary for the activities including life vests. Participants need only to bring is their sense of adventure! The program will begin with some paddling basics. Then people will glide into the lake to put their knowledge to the test.

The program is free to all. There are a limited number of vessels; so be prepared to share time on the lake with others. There will be plenty of time for participants to enjoy the experience.


The O達rien County Conservation Board is offering a number of opportunities to learn more about the total solar eclipse which will happen across the United States this August.

On Sunday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m., bring your family out to the Prairie Heritage Center to learn more about this special event. There will be activities and experiments which will focus on the sun, moon and earth.

Various methods of safely looking at the sun will be displayed. Get set now to take part in the Great American Eclipse.
