Regional softball pairings announced

The regional pairings for softball were announced last week. In 1A-Region 2, the St. Mary’s Panthers will head to Correctionville on Monday to take on River Valley with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. River Valley currently has a 12-18 record. Their top pitcher is Alycen Knack who sports an 8-8 record with an ERA of 2.85. Their top hitter is Makenna Thomas who has 40 hits, nine home runs and 43 RBIs with an average of .404. The winner of the contest will move on to face Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Aryshire on July 5 in Correctionville.

In 1A-Region 3, Newell-Fonda will host the winner of St. Edmond and Coon Rapids-Bayard on July 5. The Gaels sport a 9-14 record and the Crusaders currently stand at 10-10. The Mustangs knocked off CRB last year in regional play, 5-1.

In 2A-Region 1, Sioux Central will head to Cleghorn on Monday night to take on MMC-RU. The Royals sport a 6-13 mark currently. Their main starter in the circle is Courtney Miller. Miller’s ERA stands at 7.39 and she has three wins on the year. Haley Schwarz is their top hitting threat with 25 hits and and average of .439. The winner of that contest moves on to face North Union on July 5 in Swea City.

In 2A-Region 2, Alta-Aurelia will host the winner of OA-BCIG and South Central Calhoun on July 5 in Alta. OA-BCIG record currently stands at 10-18. South Central Calhoun currently stands at 1-15. The Warriors defeated the Titans this year, 14-1.

Also in 2A-Region 2, Ridge View takes on Hinton in Hinton on July 5. The Blackhawks currently sport a 12-9 record this season. Their top pitcher is El’Lee Kroll who sports a 12-8 record with an ERA of 4.41. Their top hitter is Shelbie Young who has 26 hits and a .388 average. Should the Raptors knock off Hinton, and Alta-Aurelia defeat either OA-BCIG or South Central Calhoun, the two teams would face off in Alta on July 7.

In 4A-Region 1, Storm Lake will travel to LeMars on July 6. The Bulldogs currently have an 11-16 record and squeaked out a 6-5 win against the Tornadoes a couple of weeks ago. The winner of that game will travel to Riverside to take on Bishop Heelan on July 8.

The State tournament begins on Monday, July 17 at 11 a.m.
