Darma Rae Tripp awarded Shirley Sorbe Scholarship
Darma Rae Tripp, Sioux Rapids, has been named the winner of the 2017 Shirley Sorbe Scholarship award. The daughter of Penny Williams and Roger Tripp, Darma will graduate from Sioux Central High School in May. Her future plans are to attend Iowa Central Community College this fall. Darma’s course of study will be secondary education with an emphasis on math. Her goal is to become a high school math or art teacher while also coaching high school sports.
During her high school career, Darma has participated in art club, volleyball, softball and track. Darma has been to the State track meet all four years of her high school career, along with being selected to the 2nd team all-state softball. She also was selected to attend a student NASA competition with other students in Houston, Texas.
Congratulations to Darma on receiving this scholarship which was established in memory of Shirly Sorbe, an employee of Buena Vista County Farm Bureau for 39 years, as a lasting tribute to an outstanding individual.
Sorbe was a long-time resident of the Rembrandt and Alta communities.
The scholarship given each year is generated from the interest earned on a savings account established from scholarship donations given in her memory. This year marks the 21st year that the Sorbe Scholarship has been awarded to a student in Buena Vista County.
